Here is an interesting article in the Conservative Voice of all places about animals vs humans. The writer works for PETA, which makes the source all the more interesting.

This is a great article. I am going to copy it and hang it up in my cubicle at work. It's true that people who care about animals cross all political, ethnic and cultural boundaries. But those who are intolerant of animal issues also cross all boundaries. I have a liberal African-American female colleague who becomes infuriated at even the mention of animal rescue. Rescue animals instead of people? Go to New Orleans to rescue someone's dog? That's stupid.
The anger is hard for me to comprehend. I guess I could accept lack of understanding or disinterest more than the genuine anger and indignation. It's not even apportioned depending on the issue. Her anger is across the board. Animal shelter workers getting compassion fatigue from working with abused and neglected animals? Unbelievable! People who cry over their dogs? She shakes her head and feels no sympathy for their pain.

I find that level of intolerance baffling.
