Elephants Hear With Their Feet

This is interesting. A researcher found that when elephants listen to something close, they use their ear flaps like a parabolic antenna. But, when they try to listen to something far away, they don't move, and lean into their front feet.

The different ways that animals sense their surroundings makes use realize that we humans have lost part of our connection with nature. The use of other sensing methods may be the reason why animals, even pets are able to do some amazing things, like return home after being lost and apparently detect if an earthquake or storm is near. Perhaps we too have such abilities which have only been dulled by our logic. Studying these animals will surely help us to understand ourselves.
