Swedish King Wants to Cull Country's Wolf Population

Unfortunately, he's also one of the presidents of the World Wildlife Fund whose Swedish chapter supports the maintenance of the wolf population. D'oh! From Wildlife Extra.....
Wolves kill elk - But King Gustaf wants to kill the elk so he wants to get rid of wolves And why does he want to do that? Because every year the good king runs an elk hunt in Sweden, along with his son Prince Carl Philip. Despite the fact that some 100,000 elk are shot every autumn in Sweden out of an estimated population of 3-400,000, King Gustaf believes that the presence of 200 wolves might spoil his annual hunt, so has been advocating the culling of as many wolves as possible. Yet to hunt the elk, he himself uses hunting dogs.

Wolf Killing in Idaho Under Scrutiny

I'm not surprised Sarah Palin's family is from Idaho. The state government is as crazy about wolf killing as she is. But a US District Court Judge has granted a hearing on stopping the killing to wolf advocates represented by Earthjustice.

Montana is another state where wolf killing is allowed.

Happy Fourth of July!

And a special shout out to Sarah Palin for resigning to make this even better. And just so you know, we've been covering her awful policies long before Rich Lowry was seeing starbursts from that winking moron.

Good riddance.

Obama's Rules Freeze May Help Wolves

Let's keep our fingers crossed.

In one of his first presidential acts, President Barack Obama has ordered federal agencies to halt all pending regulations until his administration can review them....

Wildlife conservationists say the freeze will delay and possibly prevent the removal of gray wolves from the federal endangered species list in Montana, Idaho, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, and also in portions of Washington, Oregon, Utah, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.

Michael Robinson of the Center for Biological Diversity says the pause will afford President Obama and his new Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar the opportunity to rethink the previous administration’s efforts to remove wolves from the endangered species list.

I really hope Salazar turns out to be a good guy.

Did Sarah Palin Allow Wolf Cubs to be Slaughtered?

That is the allegation in this Defenders to Wildlife video. If true, that's another reason not to vote for this backwoods goofball hick.

Spotlighting Palin's Barbaric Wolf Killing Policies

We wrote about it here before Palin became the Republican VP nominee, now people like Andrew Sullivan are catching on to her cruel policies as governor. Bad for wolves, bad for America.

Defenders of Wildlife Blast Palin in New Ad

Nice and effective. Let's hope we see more of this from environmental groups.

Bring Palin a Wolf Leg, Get $150.00

In addition to killing wolves from airplanes, Palin supports paying cash to those that cut off their left leg and bring it in for a cash prize. How's that for state socialism?

Palin Supports Brutal Method of Killing Wolves

I understand there may be some instances where predator control is necessary. I'm not an absolutist on this point. Doing it from low flying aircraft, however, is just barbaric. The wolves suffer needlessly because hunters simply wound them more often then not firing from an airplane. This is what Palin has pushed for.

Here is a video from Defenders of Wildlife that shows the method (it's under 3 minutes).

Here is more video from Current on the subject (this one is a full 10 minutes), but explains how this is mainly for the benefit of trophy hunters, not subsistence hunters that Palin claims it is for. It's worth watching.
