Why No Fuss About Michael Vick?

Michael Silver, some Yahoo Sports guy, has a column about why Michael Vick's return to the NFL has turned out to be so anticlimactic (I was wondering the same thing myself recently.)

These are his thoughts....

I know plenty of people still detest Vick for what he did, but if there are protesters at his games or outside the Eagles’ training facility, I haven’t heard about them. And in his cameo appearances in the two games since NFL commissioner Roger Goodell lifted his suspension, Vick hasn’t done anything to cause a commotion, either.

It’s now clear that the odds of Vick starting a game for the Eagles are roughly equivalent to those of coach Andy Reid being named Mr. Universe. McNabb has played brilliantly in his two starts, reaffirming his status as The Man. During the two games McNabb missed with a fractured rib, third-year backup Kevin Kolb repositioned himself as Philly’s quarterback of the future, throwing for more than 300 yards in each of his first two career starts, something no NFL passer had ever accomplished....

It’s starting to look like the Eagles’ signing of Vick was essentially a courtesy to a fallen star, a chance to let him transition back into the league and break a slight sweat on Sundays without figuring in anything important.

The Eagles are probably good enough to afford that luxury. I’m not so sure how good Vick is anymore, or whether he’ll ever get another chance to be an NFL starter. Those are questions that, barring a dramatic change of events, will be answered in another city in another season.

I don't understand why there hasn't been more outrage or rowdiness. Certainly, he's on his best behavior and the Humane Society is using him to battle dog-fighting rings. But where's PETA? I don't get it.

If the Eagles offered a courtesy to this guy by signing him, I'd say that the $1 million contract he received would be charity best spent elsewhere.

Just realized that we reported this on Critter World News, but never posted about it.

Michael Vick is now eligible to return in Game THREE instead of just Game Six of the regular season.

Someone up there must like him.

Another Excuse for Michael Vick

Sigh. I see a lot of these rationales. Essentially, it goes like this.

What Michael Vick did really sucked.

But everything humans do to animals really sucks anyway.

So, let's cut him some slack and forgive the guy.

In that case, why do we punish humans for crimes against other humans? We are a pretty cruel society that cares little for children, the poor and the elderly. If someone harms them, well, it's okay if you place it in context.

Let's give the perpetrator a second chance!

Why the Rush to Forgive Michael Vick?

I just don't understand it. Even some people who think he behaved horribly want to give him a second chance. They say it's the only fair thing to do, everyone makes mistakes, he's served his time, it's only the "Christian" thing to do, blah, blah, blah.

What if, instead of hanging and drowning dogs, Sick Vick were involved in hanging and drowning people? Would we be in such a hurry to forgive and forget? Following that logic, why were we so quick to condemn Jeffrey Dahmer? He did some sick things, but the poor guy couldn't help himself! Perhaps he deserved a second chance. Wouldn't it have been Christian to just release him and hope he could redeem himself through a high-profile, lucrative contract? Perhaps he just needed a mentor or, even better, a hug!

Of course not. We can't compare the two. Because he killed humans and only humans matter in this world remember?

Great Response to Jesse Jackson's Vick Offensive

Jesse Jackson is just a nut I think. This is a great response to his recent complaining that the NFL is colluding against Vick and his insulting comparison of Vick to Jackie Robinson, the African American who broke the race boundaries in major league baseball. The defense is not from an animal rights perspective, but it's still good, especially in exposing the lame attempt to make this a civil rights issue.

The Rehabilitation of Michael Vick Continues

Jesse Jackson says that the NFL is keeping Sick Vick out of the NFL just like baseball kept out Jackie Robinson. I hardly think the two situations compare.

Reverend Jackson, Jackie Robinson was a good man, but Michael Vick is not. This is not a civil rights issue. Stop trying to make it into one. It is an issue of character.

To Be Fair: An Argument in Support of Vick

I do not like Michael Vick and would pay to see him in a ring tied to a stake with some hungry bears inside. But, to be fair, I do want to highlight this very thoughtful piece by Raina Kelley at Newsweek. She doesn't defend what he did, but she makes an eloquent argument for second chances.

It's not good enough to sway me...but I admire the level of consideration and sincerity in her appeal.

Stupid Seattle Seahawks Fans Would Take "Sick Vick"

Sometimes I can't believe the stupidity and callousness of people. An informal poll shows that 51 percent of Seattle Seahawks fans would actually welcome Vick to the team.

Talk about desperation to win something at any cost. What a pathetic bunch.

Early rumors swirled around the Patriots or the Steelers. If it's the Seattle Seahawks, I may have to move.

Well, I know two teams I may not be rooting for next season. (Of course, I've disliked the Patriots ever since their coach was caught with filming other teams. And the Steelers? Not since they were handed the Super Bowl over the Seahawks. Worst officiating EVER!)

Plus, I personally have no room for forgiveness for Sick Vick. Others may, but I don't.

Sick Prank with Dead Bear Cub

This is not just stupid, but sick.

And don't forget that a bear cub was shot, not by the kids, but by some other monster.

Authorities said Tuesday that a student prank, not a political statement, was the motivation for dumping a dead bear cub draped in Barack Obama signs on a North Carolina campus earlier this week.

They found a bear cub that had been shot in the head, grabbed it, took political signs "at random" to cover the bleeding, then decided to leave it at the base of a statue on campus.

No political motivation either, huh?

I am so proud of being human.
