Sled Dog Massacre Continues to Horrify

This is the story of the sled dogs that were cruelly executed because a Whistler company wanted to downsize. Apparently, the manager of Howling Dog Tours applied for workers comp for PTSD and this is how the whole story was revealed.

It's created quite an international uproar and the murdered dogs are knows as the Whistler 100.

Torn about Guide Dogs

I am very torn about guide dogs. I know that they provide an important service, but what kinds of protection do they have?

I've heard of the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation which supposedly doesn't allow the blind person to actually own the dog. This way, they can protect the dog and, in cases of abuse, take it back without any legal hassle. (I couldn't find confirmation on the site, but read about them in Healthy Pet magazine.)

I don't know how many guide dog groups do this though. It seems like the best approach to me though.

UK Stamp Honors Working Dogs

This is cool. And, it's from a blog called Mutts from the Baltimore Sun.

The United Kingdom is honoring its working dogs with a new series of stamps illustrating the vital roles they perform.

The issue commemorates two events -- 2008 is both the Year of the Assistance Dog and the 100th anniversary of police dogs in Britain.
